While recording:<\/p>\n<ul>\n  <li>The large note name and frequency readout show the pitch hummidi is hearing in real time \u2014 if it stays blank, hummidi isn&#8217;t picking up a clear pitch yet.<\/li>\n  <li>Sing or hum <strong>one note at a time<\/strong>, holding each note steady for a moment before moving on.<\/li>\n  <li>Tap <strong>Stop<\/strong> when you&#8217;re finished. hummidi then finds the notes, estimates the key and tempo, and shows the result.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"callout\">Tip: A quiet, close, steady tone gives far better results than a loud, distant, or wavering one.<\/div>\n\n<h3>Microphone sensitivity<\/h3>\n<p>On the start screen, use the <strong>microphone sensitivity<\/strong> slider to match your voice and room:<\/p>\n<ul>\n  <li><strong>Raise it<\/strong> if you sing quietly or notes are being missed.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Lower it<\/strong> if a noisy room is creating extra, unwanted notes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 id=\"input-styles\">Hum, Do &amp; Na<\/h2>\n<p>Before recording, pick the voice input style that matches how you&#8217;ll sing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n  <li><strong>Hum<\/strong> \u2014 best for smooth, sustained, closed-mouth melodies. Notes flow together.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Do<\/strong> \u2014 sing each note as a crisp &#8220;do.&#8221; hummidi treats each syllable as a new note start, so repeated notes stay separate.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Na<\/strong> \u2014 like Do, using a &#8220;na&#8221; syllable. Great when you want clearly separated, repeated notes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"callout\">If repeated notes are merging into one long note, switch to <strong>Do<\/strong> or <strong>Na<\/strong> and articulate each note. If a single note is splitting into many, use <strong>Hum<\/strong>.<\/div>\n\n<h2 id=\"quality\">Recording quality feedback<\/h2>\n<p>After each take, hummidi shows a quick quality summary so you know whether to edit or re-record:<\/p>\n<ul>\n  <li><strong>Good signal<\/strong> \u2014 clean and stable. Ready to edit or export.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Fair signal<\/strong> \u2014 usable, but some pitch drift or soft passages. Review the highlighted notes; a slightly louder retake may help.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Retake<\/strong> \u2014 the signal was too quiet or unstable. Try again closer to the mic with a steadier, louder tone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The summary also shows how much of the take was &#8220;voiced&#8221; (had a clear pitch) and how &#8220;stable&#8221; it was, along with the detected note count, key, and tempo.<\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"editing\">Editing notes<\/h2>\n<p>Your melody appears on a piano roll. Tap a note to select it, then:<\/p>\n<ul>\n  <li><strong>Drag up or down<\/strong> to change its pitch.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Drag left or right<\/strong> to move it in time.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Drag the right edge<\/strong> to change how long the note lasts.<\/li>\n  <li>Use the <strong>stepper<\/strong> in the info bar to nudge the pitch by a single semitone.<\/li>\n  <li>Tap the <strong>speaker<\/strong> button to audition (hear) the selected note.<\/li>\n  <li>Tap the <strong>trash<\/strong> button to delete the selected note.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Tap empty space<\/strong> on the roll to add a new note.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Made a mistake? Tap the <strong>undo<\/strong> arrow in the toolbar to step back through your edits.<\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"cleanup\">Tempo, key &amp; timing<\/h2>\n<p>Open the <strong>settings<\/strong> menu (the sliders icon) to tidy up your melody:<\/p>\n<ul>\n  <li><strong>Detect tempo from rhythm<\/strong> \u2014 estimates the BPM from how you sang, or pick a fixed tempo yourself.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Quantize timing<\/strong> \u2014 snaps note starts and lengths to a grid (1\/4, 1\/8, 1\/16, or 1\/8 triplet) for a tighter feel.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Snap to key<\/strong> \u2014 nudges every note to the nearest tone in the detected musical key.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Transpose<\/strong> \u2014 shift the whole melody up or down by a semitone or a full octave.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Use the grid control on the piano roll to switch between snapped and free timing while dragging notes.<\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"playback\">Playback &amp; instruments<\/h2>\n<ul>\n  <li>Tap <strong>Play<\/strong> to hear your melody. Tap <strong>Stop<\/strong> to pause.<\/li>\n  <li>Drag the ruler at the top of the piano roll to <strong>scrub the playhead<\/strong> and start from any point.<\/li>\n  <li>If your build includes an instrument sound bank, open <strong>settings<\/strong> to choose an <strong>instrument<\/strong> for playback.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"callout\">Playback automatically pauses if you unplug headphones or receive a phone call.<\/div>\n\n<h2 id=\"export\">Exporting MIDI<\/h2>\n<p>Tap <strong>Export MIDI<\/strong> to create a standard <code>.mid<\/code> file and open the share sheet. From there you can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n  <li>Open it directly in a music app such as <strong>GarageBand<\/strong>, <strong>Logic Pro<\/strong>, or <strong>Ableton Live<\/strong>.<\/li>\n  <li>Save it to Files, AirDrop it to your Mac, or send it via Messages or Mail.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The exported file preserves your notes, their timing, velocities, and the melody&#8217;s tempo, so you can assign any instrument in your DAW.<\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"sessions\">Saving sessions<\/h2>\n<p>Tap the <strong>folder<\/strong> button to manage your melodies. You can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n  <li><strong>Save<\/strong> the current melody so you can return to it later.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Load<\/strong> a previous melody.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Rename<\/strong>, <strong>duplicate<\/strong>, or <strong>delete<\/strong> saved melodies as you experiment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 id=\"troubleshooting\">Troubleshooting<\/h2>\n\n<details>\n  <summary>hummidi isn&#8217;t detecting any notes<\/summary>\n  <ul>\n    <li>Make sure you allowed microphone access (see the microphone permission item below).<\/li>\n    <li>Sing or hum a little louder and move closer to the microphone.<\/li>\n    <li>Raise the <strong>microphone sensitivity<\/strong> slider on the start screen.<\/li>\n    <li>Hold each note steady for a moment \u2014 very short or wavering sounds are hard to pin down.<\/li>\n    <li>Watch the live pitch readout while recording; if it stays blank, hummidi isn&#8217;t hearing a clear pitch.<\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n<\/details>\n\n<details>\n  <summary>I&#8217;m getting too many extra notes, or notes are splitting apart<\/summary>\n  <ul>\n    <li><strong>Lower<\/strong> the microphone sensitivity slider.<\/li>\n    <li>Reduce background noise, fans, or music in the room.<\/li>\n    <li>Use the <strong>Hum<\/strong> input style for smoother, sustained notes.<\/li>\n    <li>Delete stray notes on the piano roll, or tap undo to revert.<\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n<\/details>\n\n<details>\n  <summary>Repeated notes are merging into one long note<\/summary>\n  <ul>\n    <li>Switch the input style to <strong>Do<\/strong> or <strong>Na<\/strong> and sing a clear syllable for each note.<\/li>\n    <li>Leave a tiny gap between repeated notes so each start is distinct.<\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n<\/details>\n\n<details>\n  <summary>The pitches are correct but off by an octave<\/summary>\n  <ul>\n    <li>Open <strong>settings<\/strong> and use <strong>Transpose &rarr; Up an octave<\/strong> or <strong>Down an octave<\/strong> to shift the whole melody.<\/li>\n    <li>To fix a single note, select it and drag it up or down, or use the stepper.<\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n<\/details>\n\n<details>\n  <summary>The timing feels loose or uneven<\/summary>\n  <ul>\n    <li>Open <strong>settings<\/strong>, tap <strong>Detect tempo from rhythm<\/strong> (or set a tempo), then <strong>Quantize timing<\/strong> to a grid.<\/li>\n    <li>Fine-tune individual notes by dragging them on the piano roll.<\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n<\/details>\n\n<details>\n  <summary>Some notes sound out of key<\/summary>\n  <ul>\n    <li>Open <strong>settings<\/strong> and tap <strong>Snap to key<\/strong> to pull every note into the detected scale.<\/li>\n    <li>If the detected key is wrong, correct the offending notes by hand first, then snap again.<\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n<\/details>\n\n<details>\n  <summary>Microphone permission was denied<\/summary>\n  <p>hummidi needs the microphone to hear your humming. To re-enable it:<\/p>\n  <ol>\n    <li>Open the iOS <strong>Settings<\/strong> app.<\/li>\n    <li>Scroll to <strong>hummidi<\/strong>.<\/li>\n    <li>Turn on <strong>Microphone<\/strong>.<\/li>\n  <\/ol>\n  <p>You can also tap <strong>Open Settings<\/strong> in the in-app prompt to jump there directly.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n<details>\n  <summary>There&#8217;s no sound during playback<\/summary>\n  <ul>\n    <li>Check that your device isn&#8217;t muted and the volume is up.<\/li>\n    <li>Make sure the Silent\/Ring switch isn&#8217;t set to silent.<\/li>\n    <li>If you just unplugged headphones or ended a call, tap <strong>Play<\/strong> again \u2014 playback pauses automatically in those cases.<\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n<\/details>\n\n<details>\n  <summary>My exported MIDI file won&#8217;t open in another app<\/summary>\n  <ul>\n    <li>hummidi exports a standard <code>.mid<\/code> file, which nearly all music apps support.<\/li>\n    <li>In the share sheet, choose <strong>Save to Files<\/strong>, then import the file from within your DAW.<\/li>\n    <li>MIDI files contain notes and timing only \u2014 you&#8217;ll pick the instrument sound inside your DAW.<\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n<\/details>\n\n<h2 id=\"privacy\">Privacy<\/h2>\n<p>hummidi processes all audio <strong>on your device<\/strong>. Your humming is used only to detect pitch and create notes. Nothing is recorded to a server, transmitted, or shared, and the app has no accounts, ads, or tracking.
