It shows:<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>Your current <strong>speed<\/strong> in large, easy-to-read digits<\/li>\n  <li>A <strong>speed bar<\/strong> that changes color (green \u2192 yellow \u2192 red) as you approach the speed limit<\/li>\n  <li>Your <strong>compass direction<\/strong> (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW)<\/li>\n  <li>The <strong>current time<\/strong><\/li>\n  <li><strong>Left and right turn indicators<\/strong> that light up automatically when you turn<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Spoken speed announcements<\/strong> in several voice modes<\/li>\n  <li>A <strong>0-60 timer<\/strong> that records and saves your runs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3>How do I use it?<\/h3>\n\n<ol>\n  <li>Open the app and tap <strong>Allow<\/strong> when iOS asks for location access.<\/li>\n  <li>Choose your preferred unit at the top: <strong>MPH<\/strong>, <strong>KM\/H<\/strong>, or <strong>M\/S<\/strong>.<\/li>\n  <li>Pick a voice mode at the bottom (or leave it <strong>Off<\/strong>).<\/li>\n  <li>Place your iPhone on the dash and start driving. The screen will stay on automatically.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<p>For best results, lay the phone flat on the dash or mount it where you can glance at it without taking your eyes off the road.<\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"speed-accuracy\">Speed &amp; Accuracy<\/h2>\n\n<h3>Why is the speed lagging behind what I&#8217;m doing?<\/h3>\n\n<p>Your iPhone&#8217;s GPS only reports speed about <strong>once per second<\/strong>. The app smoothly animates between readings, but the displayed value can lag real-world changes by up to a second. This is a hardware limit on every iPhone \u2014 not something the app can speed up.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>For best accuracy:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>Drive at a steady speed when checking the reading<\/li>\n  <li>Give the display a moment to catch up after accelerating or braking<\/li>\n  <li>Make sure you have a clear view of the sky (open sky = better GPS)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3>What&#8217;s the difference between &#8220;GPS&#8221; and &#8220;Corrected&#8221;?<\/h3>\n\n<ul>\n  <li><strong>MPH (GPS)<\/strong> \/ <strong>KM\/H (GPS)<\/strong> \u2014 the raw speed reported by your iPhone&#8217;s GPS.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>MPH (Corrected)<\/strong> \/ <strong>KM\/H (Corrected)<\/strong> \u2014 the GPS speed multiplied by ~1.04 to better match the speedometer in most cars. Most car speedometers read about 3\u20135% high by design, so this view often matches what you see on the dashboard.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>If you want to know your <strong>actual<\/strong> speed, use the GPS view. If you want a reading that matches your car&#8217;s speedometer, use the Corrected view.<\/p>\n\n<h3>The speed shows 0 even though I&#8217;m moving<\/h3>\n\n<p>Try these in order:<\/p>\n\n<ol>\n  <li><strong>Check location permission.<\/strong> Go to <strong>Settings \u2192 Privacy &amp; Security \u2192 Location Services \u2192 Speak N Speed<\/strong>. Make sure it&#8217;s set to <strong>While Using the App<\/strong> (or <strong>Always<\/strong>).<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Make sure Location Services is on globally<\/strong> at <strong>Settings \u2192 Privacy &amp; Security \u2192 Location Services<\/strong>.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Get a clear view of the sky.<\/strong> GPS doesn&#8217;t work well indoors, in tunnels, in parking garages, or surrounded by tall buildings. Step outside or drive into the open and wait 10\u201330 seconds for a fix.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Toggle Airplane Mode<\/strong> off and on, then reopen the app.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Restart your iPhone<\/strong> if GPS still isn&#8217;t responding.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<h3>The speed jumps around or shows weird values<\/h3>\n\n<p>This is almost always a weak GPS signal. Tall buildings, heavy tree cover, tunnels, and bad weather all reduce accuracy. Move to an open area, and the reading should stabilize within a few seconds.<\/p>\n\n<h3>The speed shown is different from my car&#8217;s speedometer<\/h3>\n\n<p>This is normal. Car speedometers are designed by manufacturers to read slightly <strong>higher<\/strong> than your actual speed (usually 3\u20135%). GPS speed is closer to your true ground speed. Try the <strong>Corrected<\/strong> view if you want a number that more closely matches your dashboard.<\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"voice-announcements\">Voice Announcements<\/h2>\n\n<h3>How do I turn voice on?<\/h3>\n\n<p>Tap <strong>Speak Every 1<\/strong> or <strong>Speak Every 10<\/strong> at the bottom of the screen.<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li><strong>Speak Every 1<\/strong> announces your speed every time it changes by 1 unit (e.g., &#8220;30&#8221;, &#8220;31&#8221;, &#8220;32&#8221;\u2026)<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Speak Every 10<\/strong> announces only at round multiples of 10 (e.g., &#8220;30&#8221;, &#8220;40&#8221;, &#8220;50&#8221;\u2026)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Tap <strong>Off<\/strong> to silence voice announcements.<\/p>\n\n<h3>I can&#8217;t hear the voice<\/h3>\n\n<ul>\n  <li><strong>Turn up your iPhone&#8217;s volume<\/strong> using the side buttons.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Check the silent \/ ring switch<\/strong> on the side of your phone. The app uses the speech system, which respects this switch on most devices.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Disconnect and reconnect Bluetooth<\/strong> if you&#8217;re paired to a car stereo or speaker that may have routed audio elsewhere.<\/li>\n  <li><strong>Check that voice mode isn&#8217;t set to Off<\/strong> at the bottom of the screen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3>The voice talks over my music \/ navigation<\/h3>\n\n<p>This is a known limitation of the speech system on iOS. If it becomes disruptive, switch to <strong>Off<\/strong> and rely on the visual display, or use <strong>Speak Every 10<\/strong> so it speaks less often.<\/p>\n\n<h3>Why does the app say &#8220;Good Morning&#8221; \/ &#8220;Good Afternoon&#8221; when I open it?<\/h3>\n\n<p>That&#8217;s the welcome greeting based on the time of day. It plays once per launch.<\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"turn-indicators\">Turn Indicators<\/h2>\n\n<h3>How do the turn arrows work?<\/h3>\n\n<p>The app watches your compass heading. When you change direction by more than about 25\u00b0 within two seconds, the matching turn arrow lights up yellow for a few seconds.<\/p>\n\n<h3>The turn arrows don&#8217;t light up \/ show the wrong direction<\/h3>\n\n<p>The arrows depend on your iPhone&#8217;s <strong>compass<\/strong>, which can be thrown off by:<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>Magnets in phone cases, mounts, or wallets<\/li>\n  <li>Metal dashboards or car frames<\/li>\n  <li>Other electronics nearby<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>To recalibrate the compass:<\/strong> Open Apple&#8217;s <strong>Compass<\/strong> app, then move your phone in a figure-8 pattern until the calibration screen disappears. Then come back to Speak N Speed HUD.<\/p>\n\n<p>If you&#8217;ve never granted the app permission to use your heading, the arrows won&#8217;t work \u2014 see the location permission steps above.<\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"timer\">0-60 Timer<\/h2>\n\n<h3>How do I use the 0-60 timer?<\/h3>\n\n<p>The 0-60 timer mode is included in a future update. When enabled, it automatically:<\/p>\n\n<ol>\n  <li>Starts the clock when you begin moving (above 1 MPH).<\/li>\n  <li>Stops and announces your time the moment you cross 60 MPH.<\/li>\n  <li>Saves the result to your history.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<p>For safety, only do 0-60 runs on a closed course or other safe, legal location.<\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"display\">Display &amp; Layout<\/h2>\n\n<h3>The screen goes black while I&#8217;m driving<\/h3>\n\n<p>The app keeps the screen on while it&#8217;s open, but if you switch to another app or lock the phone, iOS will turn off the screen normally. Keep Speak N Speed HUD in the foreground while driving.<\/p>\n\n<h3>The numbers are hard to read in sunlight<\/h3>\n\n<p>Turn your iPhone&#8217;s brightness all the way up. <strong>Settings \u2192 Display &amp; Brightness \u2192 Brightness slider<\/strong>, or swipe down from the top-right and drag the brightness slider up. You can also disable Auto-Brightness at <strong>Settings \u2192 Accessibility \u2192 Display &amp; Text Size \u2192 Auto-Brightness<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<h3>Can I use the app in landscape?<\/h3>\n\n<p>Yes. Rotate your phone and the display will rotate to match. The compass also re-calibrates to your new orientation automatically.<\/p>\n\n<h3>The app is using the wrong unit<\/h3>\n\n<p>Tap the unit you want at the top of the screen (MPH, KM\/H, or M\/S). Your choice is remembered until you change it.<\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"battery\">Battery &amp; Performance<\/h2>\n\n<h3>The app drains my battery quickly<\/h3>\n\n<p>GPS and a constantly-on screen both use power. To extend battery life:<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n  <li>Plug your phone into a car charger while driving.<\/li>\n  <li>Lower the screen brightness.<\/li>\n  <li>Close other apps running in the background.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3>Does the app work in the background?<\/h3>\n\n<p>No. To keep your data private and your battery healthy, the app stops using GPS when you switch away from it or lock your phone.<\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"privacy\">Privacy<\/h2>\n\n<h3>Does the app track me or share my location?<\/h3>\n\n<p>No. All location data stays on your device.
